Spanish government orders WorldCoin to stop collecting iris data
"Spain's data protection authority, the AEPD, has ordered Worldcoin (WLD) to immediately stop collecting personal data, including iris data, from people in its jurisdiction and to stop using the data it has already collected," the Financial Times (FT) reported on June 6. According to an email from the AEPD obtained by the FT, the Spanish authorities issued a "precautionary measure" on Saturday (local time) regarding Worldcoin's collection of iris data, giving the company 72 hours to demonstrate compliance. The Spanish AEPD had previously acknowledged concerns that WorldCoin's iris data collection could violate users' privacy and urged WorldCoin to implement an age verification test. On April 4, the Korean Personal Information Protection Commission also announced that it had received a complaint about WorldCoin's collection and processing of personal information and had launched an investigation.
