In the U.S. political arena, supporters and opponents of cryptocurrencies are clashing.
U.S. Representative Tom Emmer, one of the most prominent pro-crypto figures in the U.S. House of Representatives, has written a letter to the Biden administration claiming it is abusing its authority by unfairly targeting bitcoin miners, Fox Business exclusively reported. Emmer sent a letter to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), part of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), asking for an official explanation of why the agency issued an emergency order to 82 U.S. bitcoin miners to report their energy consumption. "This action is beyond the EIA's administrative authority and amounts to some sort of crackdown. The EIA even used the term 'emergency' to collect energy consumption data, but failed to show that bitcoin mining poses a threat to public welfare. This action is a shallow ploy to circumvent Congress and is unacceptable."
Meanwhile, Fox Business reporter Eleanor Terrett noted that Elizabeth Warren, the most prominent anti-cryptocurrency senator in the United States, has been in overdrive mode, sending emails to supporters asking for their support. "Senator Warren has been sending out these emails to defend her seat against John E. Deaton, a US cryptocurrency lawyer who is running for the Republican nomination in the same district. Notably, other Senate colleagues have confirmed receiving the same email, and he also highlighted in the email that he had moved to the Massachusetts district where she is running."
