Ripple has been hacked. Damage estimated at $1.12 billion XRP, Ripple Foundation freezes affected exchange addresses
Blockchain expert ZachXBT reported via X that "Ripple hack in progress. Estimated damage so far is around 2.13 billion XRP ($1.12 billion). Stolen funds have been laundered through MEXC, Gate IO, Binance, Kraken, OKX, HTX, and more." Later, Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen tweeted via X: "Yesterday, some of my personal XRP accounts were accessed without authorization. We quickly identified the issue and notified the exchange to freeze the affected addresses. Law enforcement is already involved in resolving the issue."
In the midst of this mess, 500 million XRP were unlocked from Ripple's address, according to information from Weil Alert.
