'MAGA' meme coin surges 78% after Trump's crypto endorsement
MAGA, a meme coin themed after former US President Donald Trump, surged 78% on Monday (local time) after the Republican presidential candidate made cryptocurrency-related comments. On August 8, Trump answered “yes” to a question at a dinner he hosted in Florida when asked if his campaign could accept cryptocurrency donations. He also claimed that the current US administration is against the crypto industry and emphasized to attendees that he is pro-crypto.
Following Trump's comments, MAGA's 24-hour trading volume surged 620% to $281.8 million, according to blockchain news outlet Cointelegraph, and its market capitalization of $281.8 million is ranked 248th on CoinGecko. Other political tokens also surged on the 9th, with TREMP tripling its gains with a 136% surge in 24 hours. The Independence Token (RFKJ), a token dedicated to supporting Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s presidential journey, gained 24.4%.
Joe Biden (BODEN), a meme coin that refers to the misspelling of U.S. President Joe Biden's name, rebounded as much as 22% after Trump's comments.
