Thai government removes VAT on cryptocurrency transactions
The Thai government has announced that it will remove the 7% value-added tax (VAT) on cryptocurrency transactions, according to BeInCrypto. The move recognizes digital assets as a new means of financing. The exemption will take effect on January 1, 2024, and will apply to cryptocurrency exchanges, brokers, and dealers supervised by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand. Previously, in May 2022, Thailand announced that cryptocurrencies traded on regulated exchanges would be exempt from VAT until the end of 2023. At the time, the exemption was set to expire, but now it is indefinite.
